The role of sdh gene mutations in tumors
WebbBackground: Germline mutations of the tumor suppressor genes SDHB, SDHC and SDHD play a major role in hereditary paraganglioma and pheochromocytoma. These three ge nes encode subunits of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH), the mitochondrial tricarboxylic acid cycle enzyme and complex II component of the electron transport chain. WebbSDH-deficient RCC is a subtype of RCC characterized by loss of immunohistological expression of SDHB, which was added to the WHO tumor classification in 2016 . Mutations have also been reported in other SDH genes (SDHA/C/D) and SDHB gene mutations in PGL/PCC patients cause RCC associated with disruption of the SDH complex .
