WebJun 28, 2009 · The reason for grease less u-joints is the lack of grease passages makes a stronger joint. The new greaseable joints do NOT have the 5th hole and use flush grease fittings in the caps. I guess I will just leave it alone until they need replacing, hopfully they'll last another 28 years. WebAug 15, 2024 · On my plastic cover, there is about a 3/4" hole for access to the u-joint grease fitting. If yours doesn't have one, a hole saw would quickly solve that. The little plastic "zerk" nipples on the cover are just for a bit of grease to help them spin freely. I mostly ignore mine. They've gotten a pump or two during their lifetime.
