For example, the 747-400 APU doesn't start at altitude at all, and something like a DC-9 has no requirement for a maximum altitude start. Tom. It is difficult to build a transatlantic business around a particular aircraft if it only just barely has the range for the closest city pair, meaning any expansion requires a second model. Ryanair, Southwest, etc. may not find this attractive.
